The most compelling and enlightening. What was learned>
Student paper down below:
- What have you learned from others’ responses?
In week one we discuss the theories of addiction and what we believe that addiction is, a disease, a learned behavior, or hereditary. We also discuss whether addiction can get cured like a disease or if people outgrow it as they mature, or if is only something that can be manage but never cured. From my classmates I learned a lot of interesting things, I also got to read their view when it comes to addiction. I read a post of a classmates that believes that addiction is not a disease, and she doesn’t like calling it a disease because it takes the responsibility from the person with the addiction. If people see them as they are sick, the responsibility is off them because is something that they can’t control, but in order for an addiction to be manage and kept under control a person needs to admit to themselves that they have a problem and they need to help themselves. I read another post that looks at addiction as a disease, as something that is out of their control. I personally agree more with the first post I read because I believe that in order for a person to get addicted to something they must abuse it, therefore they choose to abuse it, until then the brain gets used to it and then it becomes out of their control.
- What were the most compelling points from the interaction with your fellow students?
My classmates had a lot of valid points, each classmate believe something different then the rest. One classmate stated that they believe that addiction is hereditary, they believe that addiction is not something that you are born with, but it is a behavior that is learned later on in life. I also find compelling that so many of my classmates, including myself, has experienced addiction in first-hand, whether struggling with it themselves or someone very close to the family. There was many that stated that addiction is a learned behavior, is something that is seen in the household growing up therefore, the person who is in the household seeing it learns this behavior and see it as something normal because is what they have seen all their life. Which is something that I strongly believe as well, if the person is not educated in what addiction is they can easily fall into it.
- How did participating in this discussion help in your understanding of the Discussion Board task?
I enjoy participating in the discussion board, I like to see other people points of view because it helps me see things in a different light. I also learn a lot from others, viewing their point and learning how is it different or similar to mine, helps me better understand the subject. This also helps me to be more open to other people opinions and their point of view.
- What approaches could have yielded additional valuable information in the students’ networking?
I believe all the ends were covered, the M.U.S.E, the learning materials (which had a lot of information, links and PDF files) the live chat was something that I viewed which helped me to understand and get more information. The reading assignments was also very helpful, my favorite Google, and the discussion board, helped a lot as well to provided information and cover the subject.
- What is still unclear after the discussion with your classmates that needs to be clarified?
Thanks to all the resources and the research everything was clear, I don’t believe that there was anything felt unclear.
